THORSTEN OTT

Thorsten has been involved in photography for almost 30 years. After high-school, he studied several college photography courses at once. Thorsten says, “Eventually my college photography instructor stated "I have taught you all I know, Grasshopper; I suggest a difficult school called Brooks Institute of Photography in California. You will like the weather."

An advanced placement student, Thorsten graduated from Brooks with a BA in Advertising/Illustration Photography in 1989. After graduation the real world of lighting and business education began, and he assisted commercial photographers in Los Angeles.

Today Thorsten divides his time between teaching photography workshops and working on commercial photography projects. His work uses color, lighting, and composition to create 3-dimensional images. See Thorsten’s website, Zeroplusplus for more of his work.

Thorsten explains why he teaches. “I wish to inspire other photographers through creative lighting techniques and thinking outside the box. Often the simplest solution is already staring us in the face. Digital photography is an amazing medium that requires an understanding of certain tools, and how they can work to our advantage.” Thorsten has a blog of techniques and methods for the frugal photographer, called Zeroplusplus Blogspot, He is also an instructor participant in After Dark.
